Currently available in: Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Iceland, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Philippines, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.

Each match in the game pretty much ends in a couple of minutes, so it’s a good casual game for all. Of course, if you plan on going hardcore for the league, you may do so as well by playing lots and lots of matches. Quest are also available for you to get more rewards to upgrade your boat and crew.
Building your boat

Battle Bay boat classes

It may seem all easy, just battling in the 5V5 sea. However the only way to get stronger is thoroughly strategize your gameplay, as well as building your boat efficiently.

You will get access to boat classes. As a starter, you start off with Shooter. While advancing onwards in the game, you will unlock various other boat classes such as Speeder, Enforcer, Defender, and Fixer. Each with their own unique gear slots for various functions.

Gear slots are colored as Red, Yellow,Blue and Green. Attack, Utilities, Defence, and repairs as accordingly to the colors.
The different boat classes are generally spec-ed to your own style, aggressive, defensive, or support. After which, you will build your cannons and utilities on your boat.

Not just the boat! The crew too!
Not only do you have to just upgrade or modify your boat to your needs, you will also be able to train the various ‘crews’ which have talents to make you much stronger as well. currently there are 10 characters that are unlockable for you to use.

Not doin it alone!
Guilds are available for you to create or join in Battle Bay. You can play together with your friends or guildmates in this very game. An incentive for you is that there are rankings, or rather league where you can challenge to get higher and obtain rewards base on your infamy.

Battle Bay is the latest game from Rovio, and–oddly enough–there are no birds in it at all. Instead, the game here is a lot like Wargaming's mega-popular World of Tanks Blitz if you traded in historically accurate tanks with colorful, cartoony boats. It's really easy to look at this approach as a quick cash-in move on a popular style of game, but Battle Bay is so full of smart ideas that it feels like it's pushing this style of game forward, rather than simply imitating it.

Maritime multiplayer
Battle Bay is a multiplayer only game where two teams of five boats compete head-to-head to capture a specific point on a map. The first team to successfully occupy that area is declared the winner. There are also no respawns in the game, so if your team successfully sinks all of the enemy ships before a 5-minute round ends, you also win.
Controlling your boat is as simple as using a little virtual joystick in the lower left-hand corner of the screen and touching and dragging anywhere on the screen to adjust your camera. As your camera adjusts, so too does your boat's turret, which can be outfitted with all sorts of crazy weapons–from mortars to railguns. Firing these weapons can be as simple as touching the fire button in the lower-right corner of the screen when it locks onto an enemy or touching and holding to enter a manual aiming mode and releasing to fire.

Underwater unlocks
At its core, Battle Bay is a pretty simple game, but it quickly gets complicated by the sheer amount of unlocks in the game. As you play, you're constantly earning currency, working toward completing quests, and earning loot boxes, which give you new parts for your ship.
Ship parts are sorted by type and can be attached to any one of the five ship classes in the game. These classes are things you might expect in a multiplayer game, like the shooter (which can equip multiple weapons) and the fixer (which can heal allied ships), but they're a nice touch nonetheless. Mixing, matching, and upgrading your ships, weapons, gear, and crew are all part of Battle Bay's fun. They give you ways to tweak your boats to fit your particular playstyle. All of these upgrades can take quite a bit of time though, but you can–of course–pay to accelerate things. This is a Rovio free-to-play game, after all.

World of boats
If you've played both World of Tanks and Battle Bay, it's hard not to see their similarities. Not only is the core concept of the game the exact same, but even things like the way green lines point around your ship to show where you're steering are present in both.
Since World of Tanks is sort of the originator of Battle Bay, it might be easy to look at Rovio's work as imitation. While this is true, I honestly like playing Battle Bay more. This has a little to do with Battle Bay's colorful aesthetic and style, but even more to do with how well the game balances its ships and weapons. Everything new you unlock feels totally different, and viable, depending on particular situations. Added details, like Battle Bay's waves that constantly flow over maps, also make it so you always have new tactical considerations to make every time you play.

The bottom line
Battle Bay avoids feeling like a simple clone of World of Tanks by being a better game. It's colorful, varied, and simultaneously more accessible and strategic than Wargaming's tank battler. Sure, Battle Bay may not be a completely new idea, and the free-to-play-ness of it might be a touch overdone, but it's still a blast.

Battle Bay is a pleasant surprise, and is arguably one of the smoothest multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games present on Android and iOS. It’s a top-quality game, and that doesn’t come as a surprise, since it was made by the same developers the acclaimed Angry Birds series. Basically, Battle Bay is a game wherein you participate in fierce, action-packed 5v5 battles against players from across the globe. Currently, it is only available in selected regions, and more people will get access to it in the future.

Battle Bay is an easy to learn game, with only a mild learning curve to face. You will be treated to a tutorial against AI opponents as soon as you launch the game. Here, the basics, including movement, shooting, weapons management, and aiming are taught. After the battle, you will then proceed to learning how to upgrade your ship and train your crew. There are three currencies in the game: gold, which is used to buy items and ships, sugar, to upgrade members and level up items. The last currency are pearls, which is the premium one in this game. After the first upgrade, you will then be brought to your first ever real battle.

Matchmaking is relatively well-done: as soon as you log in to the game, you will be in the queue, along with hundreds of other players. When you press the “Battle” button on the lobby, you will be brought straight into a match with nine other players. However, skill-based matchmaking can be a little inconsistent. You could end up going up against players with stronger ships while you’re just equipped with a cannon that is as strong as a peashooter. Nevertheless, it only takes seconds for you to find a match, and connectivity is never a problem.

The controls are relatively simple and easy to learn. On the bottom left corner, there is a joystick used to move and turn your ship around. One the bottom right, you will have a joystick to aim your turret and shoot well-placed cannon and mortar fire. On the right side, you will have access to your weapons tab. Here, you can switch between weapons, from sniper cannons to mortars.

Though the maps aren’t exactly varied, they’re enough to give you a fresh look of the game. Moreover, the waters aren’t exactly calm: the waves are extremely large, and although there’s no risk of sinking, you need to navigate and shoot carefully. Your cannons may get swallowed by the waves, giving you opponents a chance to fire back. It would be best to use the environment to your advantage: hide behind obstacles if you’re being shot at, use the waves to make your enemies miss. If your ship is still pretty weak, hide behind cover, let your bloodthirsty teammates charge and just snipe from behind.

Did we mention you can join battles in an unlimited number of times because Battle Bay doesn’t have an energy system unlike other freemium games? You won’t have to wait for hours to play again, and the developers definitely did a fantastic job excluding it from the game. However, this comes at a price: people who are willing to pay for items have an advantage against players who purely want it for free.

Overall, Battle Bay should be considered as one of the best mobile games of the year. Fast-paced and action-packed gameplay paired with smooth and quick matchmaking, easy-to-learn mechanics, and stable connectivity make it an outstanding game. We highly recommend it, and you will definitely spend countless hours shooting cannons and traversing through the waves. Ahoy, and set sail!
